The RISE Study

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of an investigational sleep aid in comparison to a different type of sleep medication (ambien) or no medication at all (placebo). We are specifically interested in how these sleep inducing medications may affect a person’s thinking  when kept awake.

To test this, volunteer participants will be given one dose of a study medication during the day. Rather than going to sleep as they normally would after taking a sleep aid, they will be asked to remain awake and perform a series of games and tasks designed to determine the drugs effect on their thinking, attention, coordination, and level of alertness.

If you believe you can out-shine the effects of the medication and perform well despite being sleepy, contact our study team at rise.study@ncire.org. We will be happy to send you more information.

Why is this study being done?

Researchers at the Stress and Health Research Program are dedicated to advancing scientific understanding of the role of sleep in maintaining physical and psychological health.  Our goal is to see whether this investigation al medication produces similar effects on thinking and motor skills as compared to other prescription sleep aids.
